Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus is a truck and bus brand, which is part of Volkswagen AG.
The origins of the brand go back to Simca, which founded its Brazilian branch Simca do Brasil in 1958. In 1966 Chrysler took over 92% and a year later Simca do Brasil completely. Since 1969, Chrysler has been manufacturing the Dodge brand truck.
In 1979, Volkswagen AG initially acquired 67% of Chrysler Motors do Brasil Ltda. Company and increased its stake to 100% a year later. In the year 2000, the truck and bus party was officially part of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand.
In November 1996, today's main plant was opened in Resende, Brazil. The plant was opened in Mexico in 2004 and the production of trucks was started in 2007 at a third plant in South Africa.
The main markets are Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, the rest of the South and Central American countries as well as Africa and the Middle East. There are also individual dealers in the USA, Spain, Germany and China.
