AFRIT, as we know it today, has been built on the solid foundations of family heritage, sound business principles and an uncompromising commitment to quality.
In 1968, Arend and his sons formed Van de Wetering Engineering (PTY) Ltd, and within a short period, the company was producing vehicles for the military, as well as conducting general engineering for the motor and building industries.
In the early 70’s, the company had already earned a reputation of operating according to honest business practices and delivering finished products of the highest quality. These business principles and ethics are still very apparent in the AFRIT of the 21st century. In 1983, the van de Wetering family bought AFRIT (an acronym for Alf Finn Road Industrial Trailers) with expansion and development in mind.
By 1992, the company ceased its work for ARMSCOR (SADF) and the government, and by 1994 had transformed into a 100% commercial operation. AFRIT’s sole focus was on becoming the number one choice for customers in the road transport industry.
