Available in our TruckStore network: the Econic from Mercedes-Benz. With its exceptionally low cab, the Econic is ideally suited for operation in municipal services and short-radius distribution transport, as well as for airport and fire services.

Mercedes-Benz Econic is the designation of a model series of the Daimler AG Mercedes-Benz Trucks division.

The history of the Econic began in 1998. The low-entry vehicle concept, characterised by a particularly low cab for optimum, swift, access and exit, was way ahead of its time. In the meantime, the Mercedes-Benz Econic programme has grown to encompass a complete modular system with 2, 3 and 4 axle units. The vehicles, whose main field of operation is in waste disposal services and short-radius distribution transport, are powered by environmentally-friendly BlueTec diesel or gas engines compliant with the EEV standard. The Econic can now be seen on the streets of all major cities in Germany and all around the world. Whether in Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Paris, Stockholm, Athens or Valencia – the design benefits of the Econic are in demand from as far afield as Singapore and South America. Due to the increase in production numbers and the great demand for Econic trucks with natural gas/biogas engines, construction was transferred entirely to the special vehicles division in Wörth on the Rhine in 2009.

Our striving for perfection, sustainability and pioneering design has now brought forth the next truck generation: the new Econic. With this new low-entry vehicle we have consistently further developed a unique concept for practical use in readiness for the tough requirements of everyday operation. Whether in short-radius distribution transport or in numerous other applications: the new Econic makes work more efficient and is far ahead of its time.

the innovative low-entry concept speaks in favour of the new Econic.
Just two steps to reach the cab: you can access and exit the Econic cab with greater comfort and convenience than is the case with most other commercial vehicles. This concept enhances occupational safety, makes more efficient work processes possible and contributes towards maintaining the physical fitness of the work team. These design benefits show how important occupational safety is for the Econic. And its large panoramic windscreen allows the Econic to always meet other road users at eye level. Moreover, the low-frame concept has a further advantage: it makes the Econic a particularly superstructure-friendly special-purpose vehicle.

Top level economy.
The new, modern Mercedes-Benz engine generation has been tested in large-scale series production and the focus during development was on enhancing economic efficiency. The result: the BlueEFFICIENCY Power engines and technologies can produce fuel consumption savings of up to 4 percent and a reduction of up to 40 percent in the consumption of the AdBlue® additive. The new Econic maintains high payload figures, while its engine output has been increased even further. High reliability, lower downtimes, extended maintenance intervals and a reduction of repair and maintenance costs all contribute to making the Econic even more economically efficient.

Compellingly efficient.
The new Econic shoulders its responsibility. Mercedes-Benz BlueEFFICIENCY Power technologies are about more than just complying with the Euro VI exhaust gas emissions standard. They combine future security with the highest level of efficiency and environmental friendliness. BlueEFFICIENCY Power comprises innovative vehicle technologies and services that lead to lower consumption, thus reducing negative environmental impact.
Thanks to its further-developed exhaust gas aftertreatment process, emissions from the new Econic have sunk to the very limit of detectability. They are as much as 90 percent lower than the permissible values for the Euro V emissions norm, which was valid until 2014. The gas-powered Econic, soon to become available, is even more environmentally-compatible. And the Allison automatic transmission with new ECO software makes improved power transfer possible, even at low engine speeds. The tried and tested low floor concept with its ergonomic low entry cab and superstructure-friendly frame also contribute towards the enhanced efficiency of the new Econic.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks (Daimler Trucks) belongs to the truck division of Daimler AG. This division covers the Mercedes-Benz, Fuso, Freightliner, Western Star and Thomas Built Buses brands.

Daimler advanced to become one of the biggest truck manufacturers in the world. Since 1965, the most important production location of Mercedes-Benz Trucks has been the plant at Wörth am Rhein. The main truck models, including the Actros, Atego and Axor, are built in Wörth; specifically this involves cab production and vehicle assembly.

In 1896, designers and company-founders Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler presented the first Mercedes-Benz truck as a Daimler truck from Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG – Daimler Engine Company), as it was called at the time. Daimler-Benz produced various platform trucks and trucks up until the outbreak of the Second World War. Models such as the Mercedes-Benz Lo 2000 and the L 1500 with wood gasification plant, both of which date to the 1930s, can still be marveled at today in museums.

In 2004, Mercedes-Benz was the first manufacturer to present Mercedes-Benz engines that complied with the Euro 4 and Euro 5 emissions standards. Mercedes-Benz Trucks used SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology to achieve this. This technology was later also used by most other truck manufacturers. The SCR catalytic converter works by converting the toxic nitrogen oxide into nitrogen and water vapor in a chemical reaction through the addition of AdBlue. This means that the emissions are no longer reduced only within the engine, as was normal for engines up to that point.

A lot of value was placed on safety in the Actros. It therefore comes as no surprise to learn that the launch of the Actros saw the introduction of new safety systems. The Actros was given ABS, ASR and a driver airbag – these systems are available in most long-distance trucks nowadays. Other systems, such as distance control, stability control, lane assist and emergency brake assist, were also installed as options.
